How to train a new office admin at a contracting shop

The person on the phone is often the first impression of your company. A short plan helps them start well.

  1. Teach the services and areas. Cover what you do, what you do not and where you work.
  2. Practice the phone greeting. Write the greeting down and role-play a few calls.
  3. Show how scheduling works. Walk through booking, rescheduling and handling emergencies.
  4. Explain how quotes and invoices flow. Show where each document starts and ends.
  5. Sit in on calls. Have them listen first, then take calls with you nearby.

Common questions

How long until they are on their own?

Many shops take two to four weeks, depending on how busy the phones are.
