Job handoff checklist when another tech takes over

Handoffs go wrong when the next person has to ask the customer everything again.

  1. Write down what was found. Summarize the problem and what has been checked.
  2. List what was done. Include parts used, parts ordered and work finished.
  3. Say what is left. Spell out the next steps and any safety concerns.
  4. Attach photos and notes. Put them where the next tech will see them on the job.
  5. Tell the customer who is coming. Give the new tech's name and the expected time.

Common questions

Who writes the handoff?

The tech leaving the job, before they leave.
