How to plan a technician's day to cut drive time

Drive time is unpaid time. A little planning each evening gives hours back.

  1. Group jobs by area. Put nearby jobs on the same day.
  2. Start with the farthest or the most urgent. Decide based on customer needs.
  3. Leave buffer between jobs. Jobs rarely run exactly on time.
  4. Keep one slot open for emergencies. Protect it until mid-morning.
  5. Check parts before leaving. A return trip costs a half day.
  6. Send arrival updates. Let customers know when you are on the way.
