Job completion checklist for contractors
How a job ends decides whether you get paid fast and get referrals. A fixed checklist keeps every job closing the same way.
- Clean up and remove debris. Leave the site better than you found it.
- Walk through with the customer. Show what was done and test it together.
- Take final photos. Photos protect you if questions come up later.
- Send the invoice the same day. Fresh work gets paid faster.
- Hand over warranty and care notes. Say plainly what is covered and for how long.
- Ask for a review. Send a direct link while the customer is happy.
Common questions
Should the checklist differ by trade?
Yes, add trade-specific tests, but keep the same closing steps.
Do I need a signature at completion?
A written or texted OK is useful proof the customer accepted the work. Ask your attorney about your area.
