How to write a polite past-due reminder
Short, friendly wording for the first, second and final reminder on an unpaid invoice.
- First reminder. A friendly note with the invoice number, amount and how to pay.
- Second reminder. Reference the first note and ask if there is a problem with the invoice.
- Final reminder. State the date payment is due by and what happens next, in neutral language.
- Keep a record. Log each reminder with date and method.
- Stop and call. If a note goes unanswered, a phone call often settles it.
