How to set job site key and access rules

Taking custody of a customer's key or code is a responsibility. Written rules prevent lost keys and awkward disputes.

  1. Ask how access works. Lockbox, garage code, neighbor, or customer present?
  2. Record who received what. Note the date, the person and the item.
  3. Limit who can use it. Only the assigned technician should hold a key or code.
  4. Return or retire it. Hand keys back at job end and ask customers to change temporary codes.
  5. Keep codes out of public notes. Store them where only the team can see them.
