A leave-the-site checklist for every job

The last five minutes on site decide whether a job is remembered as clean and professional or as unfinished.

  1. Walk the work area once more. Look for fasteners, packaging and scraps you may have missed.
  2. Test what you touched. Run it, flip it or turn it on and confirm it works the way the customer expects.
  3. Take final photos. Photograph the finished work and the cleaned area for the job record.
  4. Explain what you did in plain words. Tell the customer what was done, what to watch for and who to call.
  5. Collect tools and materials. Count tools against your list before leaving.
  6. Secure the property. Close gates, doors and garage openings the way you found them.
  7. Record open items. If anything remains, note it and tell the customer when you will return.
