How to respond when a customer shows a lower quote
Compare scope first and price second.
- Thank them and ask to see it. A copy lets you compare line by line instead of guessing.
- Compare scope. Check materials, brands, permits, cleanup, warranty and who does the work.
- Point out the real gaps. Name what is missing without criticizing the other contractor.
- Offer options. If they want a lower price, show what could be changed in scope rather than cutting quality.
- Be willing to lose it. Some jobs are not a fit. A polite goodbye keeps the door open.
Common questions
Should I match the price?
Only if the scope matches and the job still pays. Matching a price for different work can cost you.
