How to quote a multi-day job so the schedule is clear

A multi-day quote works best when the customer can see what happens each day.

  1. Split the job into phases. Name each phase (prep, main work, finish and cleanup) and what is done by the end of it.
  2. Give an estimated number of days, not a promise. State your best estimate and what could change it, such as weather, parts delivery or hidden conditions.
  3. Say what you need from the customer. Access each morning, a clear work area, utilities on, pets secured.
  4. Decide how delays are handled. Write down who contacts whom and how the schedule is updated if a day is lost.
  5. Tie payments to phases if the job is large. A deposit up front and a payment at a clear milestone keeps both sides comfortable.

Common questions

Should the quote list each day?

A short day-by-day or phase list is easier for the customer to follow, as long as you call the dates estimates.

What if the job runs longer?

Explain why in writing and update the schedule. If the scope changed, use a change order.
