How to keep a license and insurance renewal calendar

Never let a license, bond or policy lapse without noticing.

  1. List everything that expires. Contractor license, business registration, general liability, workers' compensation, vehicle policies, bonds and any trade certifications.
  2. Write the date and the contact. For each item note the expiry date, the policy or license number location and who to call.
  3. Set two reminders. One 60 days before and one 14 days before the expiry date.
  4. Assign an owner. One person is responsible for each renewal, with a backup.
  5. Keep the current copies together. Store the latest certificates in one place so you can send them to a customer or property manager quickly.
  6. Review the list each quarter. Remove old items and add new ones, such as a new truck or a new certification.
