How to handle customer-supplied materials

Customers sometimes buy their own materials. You can say yes, but you need clear terms on responsibility and fit.

  1. Decide your policy. Accept, accept with conditions, or decline.
  2. Put it in writing. Note in the quote who supplies what.
  3. Inspect on arrival. Check for damage and missing parts before you start.
  4. Explain warranty limits. Your workmanship warranty may not cover the part itself.
  5. Charge fairly for the extra risk. Returns, delays and mismatches cost time.

Common questions

Do I have to install customer parts?
