How to handle a customer who wants a written guarantee

Put only what you can honor in writing, in plain words.

  1. Separate warranty from promises. Say what is covered, for how long and what is not covered.
  2. Write it on the quote. Keep the wording on the same document the customer signs.
  3. Name the exclusions. Customer misuse, outside damage and normal wear are common examples.
  4. Say how to claim. Give a phone number or email and what you need, such as photos and the job date.
  5. Keep a copy on the job. You and the customer should hold the same version.
