How to explain a quote so the customer says yes

Customers say no to what they do not understand. A clear walk-through earns trust.

  1. Start with the problem. Say in plain words what you found.
  2. Show the options. Explain what each choice includes and what it does not.
  3. Be clear on timing. Give a start date and an expected finish.
  4. Explain what could change. Tell them what would trigger a change order.
  5. Ask for a decision. Ask if they have questions, then ask if they would like to go ahead.

Common questions

Should I send the quote before or after the visit?

Many contractors send it right after the visit while the problem is fresh.

What if they want to think it over?

Agree on a follow-up date. See our estimate follow-up guide.
